Crack Sealing
- Why Should I get this done?
Crack sealing may be the single most important maintenance item that you can do for your asphalt. As older asphalt breaks down, or if the sub base underneath is failing, cracks start to form. This starts a process of rapid deterioration if they aren't treated promptly. The best way to do this is with rubberized crack filler that will prevent water from seeping down through the cracks, further compromising the sub base. We can remedy any cracks you may have as part of a sealing package or just individually on their own. If you can only afford to do one thing, seal those cracks!
- What can I expect from this process?
First step is to get the cracks cleaned out of any major debris and/or weeds. Much like with seal coating, the hot rubber tar will adhere best if the asphalt underneath is clean. While the cracks are being cleaned the hot rubber is being heated up. Once that rubber reaches approx 350 degrees F it will be spread evenly along the cracks and joints providing a waterproof seal. The hot rubber generally dries fairly quickly and in most cases can be driven over within an hour of application
